Hutch makeover!

I really wanted a hutch for this blank wall between our kitchen and dinning room. The one I really wanted was lotsa moola...from Z Gallerie. Sigh. I searched on Craigslist for something similar for awhile and eventually came across this old hutch that was for sale for $50. I thought about it for a few days and eventually contacted the seller. They were even willing to deliver it! Sah-weet!

So, I checked it out...and bought it. Below are the "before" pictures. It was old and in pretty rough shape....

I got to work right away. I took it apart, took all of the hardware off, took the doors off, took the particle board backing off and thought, 'wow, this is going to take awhile'. Ha! Next, I sanded it down - a little with a sanding block and a little with an electric sander. I did this at night while my kids were sleeping.

I spent about 4 hours on Wednesday afternoon priming it. I gave it two coast of Zinsser water based primer and let it dry for 2 full days. I wasn't sure whether I wanted to spray it or roll it. I decided to spray it. It took six cans of Rust-oleum's Heirloom White, which is a fantastic color, by the way. Finally, I used a spray polyurethane to protect my hard work.

Once it was dry, I hung the doors and put all of the hardware back on...with Jim's drill, I might add..

Now it's super cute and in my house! I am so proud of my work!!

I have another project waiting for me in my garage, but I have to come up for air first....
